Post Covid Hair Loss

I know, I know, we are all very sick of hearing about that damn C word, but I promise you are going to want to hear about this...

I'd like to share with you all a few things that I have come across in the last couple of weeks. Some of you may be aware of this and some of you, like myself, may have no idea. If you are like myself and didn't know, don't stress!! I'm here to tell you everything I know.

I'd like to firstly point out, I'm not a Doctor, I'm sharing my experiences and my understanding from a hairdresser point of view. If you have concerns please talk to a professional.

Two things we are noticing in the salon: Our guests have had a lot of hair fall roughly around 3 months after contracting the virus, also the regrowth of the hair coming through is slightly different in colour and texture. In most cases we can see a clear band of difference.

What is post Covid hair loss?

Post Covid hair loss, it's a real thing and we are starting to see a lot of it. It is exactly what it says. Hair loss after being infected with Covid.

From my experience and the knowledge I have around hair loss (please remember I am not a Doctor) is that anytime our body is under immense stress, both physically and mentally hair loss can be a major side effect, this is very common. As a hairdresser we have seen hair loss plenty of times. A lot of people who have contracted the virus have also suffered from high fevers, this can put our body under a lot of stress. Our body is busy trying to fight off the illness that it doesn't put as much focus on nourishing our hair as it would if we were our healthy selves.

The hair loss can take up to three months after the illness to be noticeable and can last between 6-9 months, everybody is different. To answer your question, YES! it will come back. Hair loss isn't something that is happening to every person, I believe, from my research, that it depends on how sick you were and how much stress you body was under trying to get you feeing good again.

Why is my hair coming back a different colour?

The hair that has come through while, or after being infected with the virus can appear slightly different. Leaving what looks like a regrowth line. This is quite common after many things, including anaesthetic, change in medication and even pregnancy (this is mainly to do with hormone change) . This can be due to the fact the new hair that has come through is lacking some serious nutrients, its not at its highest potential. It is a great indicator that something is happening on the inside.

What can I do?

My advice for post Covid hair loss is to make sure you are eating a healthy diet and supplementing. It is really important to be putting the nutrients we have lost back into our bodies. As the issue is internal we need to concentrate on what's happening on the inside.

When supplementing it is really important to stay consistent, giving your hair the best chance. It takes 90 days of consistent use to notice the difference. The supplements have to feed the follicle all the high quality ingredients, the hair has to then suck it all up and begin to create the new healthy, strong hair, after the hair has to then make its way out of your scalp which you will start to notice the quality of the new hair.

Things to remember
